Tech companies released their diversity and inclusion data in 2014 that lead to the national awareness of the lack of inclusion in the workforce that has stifled innovation. Research after research continues to show that businesses with diverse leadership and employees outperform companies that are homogeneous yet many executives question the value of diversity.

It’s a sad truth that African-Americans are extremely underrepresented in the tech industry. Many of today’s top tech companies have a workforce that is less than 5% African-American, and only 2% of venture capitalists are black. African-Americans influence the world's culture; they lead conversations on Twitter and Facebook, and they are part of a diverse population that tech companies should be focusing on to stay relevant in the innovation economy.
