Some people blog to share their opinion, some blog because it's their job and some blog as a hobby and just for fun. I think I've all four. Regardless of the reason, I've received my share of privileged access to events, established partnerships, launched startups and other opportunities and this blog has been at the core of how I've been able to tell my story and share information with the world. It's that time of the year again. Time to take a look back at the year that defined mobile marketing and location-based apps. You could almost call 2010 the year of the check-in or the year that checkins went mainstream. Regardless the 2009 technology predictions were true. 2010 was all about location, location, location. Tumblr is down making self-hosted WordPress blogs look great and reminding everyone to backup now

It has been a sad 48 hours for Tumblr. The microblogging/blogging site has been down with no ETA as to when everything will be back to normal. Tumblr users are starting to panic and get frustrated and sharing their frustration on Twitter. I have a tumblr account as well but I'm glad it's not may main website or I too would be a little upset at this point.

Regardless this is good reminder as I tell clients it's always better to host your own blog using WordPress vs Tumblr or similar sites. Still if you are using a self-hosted WordPress installation you need to back up your blog for those [...]

I remember attending blogger meetups a few years ago and there were about four people in attendance. Now if you host a blogger meetup, you might have a few hundred people. The word blog which was originally was weblog was coined by Jorn Barger in 1997 and Peter Merholz shorten it just calling it Blog giving life to new online careers. Now we have thousands of "bloggers" online and to think at one point many people especailly in the main stream media didn't value blogs or bloggers.
