Guest Post: Remotely Control a Mac From an iPhone

Guest Post Author:

Rebecca is blogger by profession. She loves writing on topics related to luxury and fashion. Beside this, she is fond of books. These days she is busy in writing an article on celeb on beach.

Controlling a computer and accessing it remotely is required to stream down the important data from a system to an iPhone. It helps the work to be done conveniently as the user wishes. Google has launched an application named “TelekinesisG” to access a mac system remotely from an iPhone. Controlling a mac from an iPhone is different, interesting and new. It helps in streaming music, videos, browsing important files, performing online searches, performing mouse clicks, running apple scripts, taking pictures in the icamera, entering text in the system using an iPhone. This application is really helpful and simple to work with.

By following the below mentioned steps, a mac can be controlled from an iPhone:
1.From Google code web-site, an iPhone remote needs to be downloaded.
2.Set the price option as “Free”.
3.Install iPhone remote after it has been downloaded.
4.Click open iPhone remote.
5.Create a login id with required password.
6.Go to apple menu in the iPhone.
7.Select System Preferences.
8.Select Network.
9.Select the network connection on which the iphone works from the pop-up menu.
10. Click on the Tcp/ IP tab.
11. An IP address appears.
12. Go to the iPhone and launch Safari.
13. Enter the IP address as :5010. For example, if the IP address found comes to 192.22.22, enter it as 192.22.22:5010.
14. Enter the user name as password created earlier in the iPhone.
15. A set of icons are displayed on the iPhone screen.
16. Click on the icon you want to access.

The mac can be controlled if the internet connection is active on the system and the iPhone as the iPhone depends on the IP address to access data from a mac. The controlling can be done when there is no Local Network connection. It requires being aware of the external IP address. After getting this IP address, the internet router can be set to pass the external traffic and thereafter, it can be connected to a computer. When iPhone remote is not required to be in use, it should not be launched. It helps to retain the security of the iPhone as it disables other sources to access the mac. Despite the inventions of this Telekinesis and other applications, at times the remote controlling does not happens. It can be blamed to the application crashes that happen in the system. Sometimes, the iPhone and system do not support the Telekinesis application.

This has been considered as a useful technique to access the mac remotely as it serves many problems to be solved easily without sticking to the computers for a long time. It helps to work and fix the important issues whenever the user gets leisure time. It does not require to transfer and to store everything in the iPhone to work with. It only accesses the files and after working on those files, it is again saved in the computer. Eventually, it is proved to be time saving and comfortable way of performing the tasks.

Screenshots: Holler iPhone App launches to help you connect with people around you for in person activities

I first learned about Holler during SXSW 2011 when founder Nick O’Neill showed me a few screenshots and talked about his vision to help connect people offline with the app. At the time little was posted outside of the Holler landing page but I still wanted to blog about holler as from what I saw I got the feeling the app could be a winner.

As time passed I wondered what was the status of Holler then I ran into Nick at the Google Ventures BBQ in Mountain View, CA. Nick gave me a status update, told me how he started over, learned iPhone iOS development and would be launching soon. Well, that day has come as Holler is now available in the iTunes app store and will be officially launching at Techcrunch Disrupt next week. Here are a few screenshots of Holler.

So… what does Holler do? Here’s the description from iTunes app store:

Holler is the easiest way to connect with the people around you for in person activities. While you can instantly connect with your existing friends, you can also meet new ones with shared interests.

Holler is totally free and works on the iPhone and the web.

Holler is perfect for:
- Connecting with other students on college campuses
- Meeting up with friends after work or school
- Discovering nearby activities with people who have shared interests
- Organize a volunteer activity
- A great excuse to say “HOLLER!”

Whether it’s meeting up for a pick up game of soccer, football, basketball (anything …), or finding someone to share a ride to work with, Holler makes it insanely easy to connect with others in the community, no matter where you are.

Yesterday, AllThinksD covered Holler in a post called: AllFacebook Founder Launches Holler to Help People Connect Offline

If you have downloaded Holler, let me know what you think about the app and concept in the commnets.

How Apple could disrupt the QR Code Reader App business and make QR Codes main stream in iOS5

When it comes to the QR Code marketing / implementation business one question I often would get is what is the best QR Code reader for xyz smartphone. That would include blackberry and nokia smartphones that come with a built in QR Code Reader/Scanner. But for the iPhone, Android and windows mobile smartphones you would have to search the various App stores for QR Code Reader or QR Code Scanner, read the reviews and try out the growing list of QR Code reader apps that for the most part does the exact same thing with the exception of a few security features or a faster reader.

With the growing interest in QR Codes being used in the USA (already mainstream and popular overseas) Apple and Google/Android OS could disrupt the QR Code Reader App business and make QR Codes main stream by just adding the “Scan QR Code” option the native camera app. That’s it, that’s all. From there every iPhone or Android powered device would have a built in QR Code Scanner app by default. It’s something that a few apps are already doing with their camera option. I think both AT&T and best buy iPhone apps have this feature as well. The new version of TriOut has the “Scan QR Code” option as you can see in the screenshot below. Apple could add this option easily.

Now, will Apple or Google add or include a default QR Code reader app/feature? Only time will tell but I would think Google would add it first being how a lot of Android apps use QR Codes for quick installation.

Just a thought.

8 websites to help you create an instagram online profile

instagram online profile

Instagram is one of those little startups that could. I’ve been blogging about Instagram since I fell in love with the app when they first launched. Now with over seven million users instagram is living up hype of what I call the new twitter and with the recent rumors that Facebook tried to buy Instagram the photo sharing startup only has one way to go and that is up. With a rapid user growth, an API that developers are building new mashups with and a list of growing brands such as Chevy, Playboy, National Geographic and ABCNews posting photos in the instagram app it’s hard to believe that instagram is still just an iPhone app. The instagram team has said an Android app is on the way but no date has been announced yet.

The other day I was editing my google+ profile and I wanted to add a public link to my instagram photos  and with instagram being only an iPhone app I had to turn to one of the websites built on the instagram API. There’s a few good ones but some require instagram users to login to see your photos. I wanted a site that would show my instagram photos in a public stream even if someone doesn’t have an instagram account. Instagram public profiles is something I’m sure the team will launch one day but right now they’re focused on mobile, which is a smart move. Below is a list of sites that allow you to create an Instagram public online profile or see your Instagram stats. I decided to go with Webstagram and you can see my webstagram instagram profile here: http://web.stagram.com/n/waynesutton/

  1. Listagram
  2. Inkstagram
  3. Instagrid
  4. Webstagram
  5. Gramfeed
  6. Extragram
  7. statigram
  8. followgram

HatTip – Paul Ford  for items 1-4 via his  Instagram Online post.

What Instagram site do you use to show your photos online?
