During SXSW 2011, a group of friends recorded a Dell Commercial at the Hilton, Austin for the Dell Vostro V130 staring Baratunde Of The Onion. Take a look.

This is the Dell Vostro V130. There was no tiger blood involved although it in the making of this video commercial. This is a great laptop that will make you stylish, professional and on point at work and in the boardroom.

There’s a lot of talk in the bubble right now about Google vs Apple but this time it’s not about mobile phones but online video formats. Google plans to ditch H.264 support for in Google Chrome for WebM and then ask everyone to download a new plug-in if you’re using Safari or Internet Explorer. This sounds like we’re going back to 2001 and flash plugins for online video.

If you’re a little confused of about what Google and Apple are battling over the guys at Nettuts+ posted the The State of Video on the Web blog post. A must read.

One of the most anticpated talks I was looking forward to at SXSW was by Kristina Halvorson @halvorson called Content Strategy FTW . I first heard Kristina speak at FOWA a year ago and I knew she would “crush it” at SXSW. A few of my NC friends such as Kipp Bodnar, Jeff Cohen and Jim Tobin attended the session as well and “over heard” how I thought Kritian’s session would rock and she didn’t disappoint us. Jim even wrote a great recap of here session called:Content Strategy is Much More than Web Copywriting: More SxSW Notes.

During her session I sat on the front row with my Macbook Pro and a usb webcam to live stream her talk. It’s a little shaky but I think well worth a listen if you’re in the content strategy/blogging/writing for the web business. SXSW Presentation: Becoming Real-Time Video Blogger in 2010 – Future15 Session

I’m still playing catch-up from SXSWi but I wanted to share the presentation from the Future15 Becoming Real-Time Video Blogger in 2010 session I presented at SXSW. The Future15 sessions were new to SXSWi this year allowing for more speakers to participate in a 2 hour time block on a niche topic with each speaker having 15 minutes to present. I like to call it a mix of “ignite” like talks meets SXSW. Take a look at the presentation below and let me know what you think. Both services seems to target bands and artist who want to broadcast live and interact with fans on Facebook and Twitter. While I think this is a great idea and plug for both platforms including Facebook. My question is why host a live video on Facebook when you can host the event on your main website? But I do get the simplicity factor since bands, artist and people spend so much time on Facebook, so just add the ability to host a live video show directly from a fanpage. hmmm

Has anyone used either one of the services from within FaceBook and you’re not a in a band or a music artist? If so how was your experience?

Producing a live video show? It's better on your blog than Twitter & Facebook

There’s a live video streaming trend where you start your live video show, broadcast and tweet or you login to Facebook, start your live video show and post to your status that you’re live. It’s easy, fast and a great way to let your followers or friends know that you’re live streaming in “real-time”. New twitter live stream web apps such as Twitcam, camtweet and ustream.tv mashup with Facebook have launched recently providing these new instant web broadcasting sites giving non-technical Twitter and Facebook users an easy way to broadcast. But why not broadcast live from your own website/blog to maintain branding and vistor retention? It’s just as easy to send a tweet saying go to “YOURWEBSITE.COM” to watch me live vs saying I’m live now go to this camtweet.com/url or even go to ustream.tv/channel/YOURNAME.

For example take a look at Gregory NG Freezerburn live page at http://live.freezerburns.com . He has the Ustream.tv embeded video player and live chat window below the player. I’m sure that when he starts to broadcast that he’ll send out a tweet and a facebook messages as well on his fanpage and personal status update. But by hosting the live video on his site visitors have an opportunity to see some of his other post, links to resources and his brand stays in front of his visitors eyes. Also I’m somewhat surprised with the recent growth with music artist and athletes using ustream.tv that their marketing agency, agent or managers haven’t setup live video shows on their individual website versus having it go to a ustream.tv/channel/yourname url. They are loosing tons of website traffic opportunities.

There are special cases if you’re reporting breaking news or if you’re mobile and using live video services like Qik.com to send video to Twitter. But when you have an opportunity to send eyes to your website, my recommendation is to do so. I’m not saying never use CamTweet or even services like TinyChat that now offers live video conversations but depending on your website and branding goals host your live shows on your own website.

Since the launch of the iPhone 3Gs YouTube has seen a 1700% increase in mobile video uploads and at lease two music videos (Reyna Perez and Kenny Mosher ) have been produced using just the iPhone. Also we have seen a few custom made iPhone 3Gs shoulder mounts and other handheld devices being made for the up and coming iPhone 3Gs mobile video producer. Let’s take a look at 5 various iPhone 3Gs video devices to help you record better videos.

1. ZGrip Pro for the iPhone.

The ZGrip pro currently cost $295.00 but a lower cost consumer model is on the way.

2. Do-it-yourself Tripod mount

Just make a trip to your local hardware store and add the Contour case for your iPhone and you’ll have a Tripod mount for your iPhone 3Gs.

This is my home made solution. I went to my local camera shop, Peace Camera and purchased a mini spring clamp tripod mount that will hold my iPhone.

The clip will attach to my tripod for stable video recording.

Also you can watch the behind the scenes of one of the iPhone 3Gs music videos.

They didn’t go into detail about how they made the iPhone 3Gs shoulder mount but if you pause it a couple of times I’m sure you can figure it out.

For those of you who don’t know, Monday thru Friday, Kipp Bodnar and I record a daily video/audio podcast called Talk Social News. We started off as a weekly podcast around September of 2008 where we would interview leaders in online technology and social media. We have interviewed people such as Louis Gray, Martin May, Allen Stern, and Peter Shankman and went on to record a daily podcast from SXSW 09. After SXSW we decided to make the transition from a weekly podcast to a daily video show lasting around 10 minutes each, still providing an audio mp3 file to listen to. Since we have moved to the daily video format Kipp and I have recorded over 61 daily video podcast on Talk Social News.

Palm Pre hands on video review and first impression.

Today I went by the Sprint store to try out the new Palm Pre and I must say I was very impressed with it. Here’s a few notes on my first hands on impression:

1. It’s smaller than my iPhone
2. The new Palm OS is very fast
3. The usability is easy but I didn’t figure out how to copy and paste. (would have to read the manual)
4. The default apps will leave you wanting more if you’re an iPhone user.
5. It had a Twitter app but not a Facebook app loaded.
6. I was impressed with the camera, and that it wanted to connect with Amazon Mp3 store
7. I didn’t like the keypad. I thought the buttons could have be a little bigger and I’m not a fan of curved slider phones.
8. Overall I think the Palm Pre is a great advancement from past Palm phones but it will need more apps to compete with the iPhone and you can clearly tell that Palm copied the usability of the iPhone with the new OS.

Here’s my video review : 6 minutes.

I did talk to one of the sprint store reps and he said that there was a line outside this morning to buy the Pre and they’re sold out. Now we have to wait until Monday to see what Apple will announced with the iPhone.
