Is the iPad a job killer? Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Blames The iPad For Killing Jobs

From: Real Clear Politics Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), who admits to owning an iPad, blames the Apple Inc. product for “eliminating thousands of American jobs.”

iPad 2

“A few short weeks ago I came to the House floor after having purchased an iPad and said that I happened to believe, Mr. Speaker, that at some point in time this new device, which is now probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs. Now Borders is closing stores because, why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes & Noble? Buy an iPad and download your newspaper, download your book, download your magazine,” Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL, Chicago) said on the House floor Friday afternoon.

Ironically, it was only last month that Rep. Jackson was promoting the Apple iPad and Amazon on the House floor.

My thoughts:

Ok I try to avoid talking about politics but this one touches a nerve. First make sure you watch the video on Real Clear Politics website. I mean, I get what Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is saying and If you really think about it, he’s part right. The iPad is made in China, and Borders is closing stores. But there’s a lot more other factors that come into play to why Borders is closing doors. Also note Borders has their own ebook (digital book) reader as well. So Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. you can’t blame the iPad.

Also as the publishing industry has been under “attack” from the decline in newspaper sales and more, changes must happen for the industry to continue. It’s called innovation and adoption. It’s what the New York Times is doing with their apps and why we have new apps like the Daily. Also not to mention how much money Apple has allowed for developers to make. If I’m a publisher or write or in the publishing industry I would have been thinking about mobile like… 4 years ago.

So while “I get” what Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr is saying, I believe it to be a very incorrect statement and a sign of how technology is progressing industries into new directions. Also it’s up to each individual to continue to learn and grow to stay current with today’s job / technology industry. It’s not easy but it’s life.

The best way to find featured apps from iPad commercials

Earlier this year I wrote a blog post about how to find iPad apps seen in commercials. Since then, I receive tons of Goggle search results from people still trying to find the apps featured in the iPad commercials. The previous post said to look for the the banner ad in iTunes that reads “Apps from iPad TV Ads” that links to this iTunes url: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?fcId=376895159. Now it seems as if the Apps from iPad TV Ads section in iTunes have not been updated for a while.

Now the best way to find featured apps from iPad commercials is on the iPad. Just launch the “App Store” application on the iPad scroll to the bottom and look in the “Quick Links” section. From there you will see a link that reads, “Apps from iPad TV Ads”. Click on that link and it will take you to the page below.

I would hope Apple continues to update the section in iTunes but it does make perfect sense to have the section in the App Store on the iPad assuming iPad owners are looking for iPad apps seen in Apple ads.

If you have not seen Apple’s latest commercial. Watch the, “the iPad Is Amazing” video below.

How to find the featured apps from Apple’s iPad commercials

UPDATE:
Read: The best way to find featured apps from iPad commercials

As I look at my analytics to SocialWayne.com I’ve noticed an increase of people searching for iPad apps they see in the commercials. This is because of a few blog post about Twitter iPad apps and Apple’s latest iPad commerical that shows all of the native apps beside the Twitter web app. The six primary iPad commercial search terms I’m receiving traffic for are:

  1. ipad commercial apps
  2. ipad apps in commercial
  3. ipad apps from commercial
  4. apps in ipad commercial
  5. apps on the ipad commercial
  6. new iPad commercial apps

As I try to add value to my site, I want to make sure readers find what they’re looking for when they arrive here. I’m not sure why people start with Google first but to find the iPad apps that are featured in the iPad commercial they need to look no further than iTunes. There’s a banner ad that reads “Apps from iPad TV Ads” that links to this iTunes url: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?fcId=376895159. The banner ad then takes you the iTunes window below where you can find all of the iPad apps from Apple’s iPad commercials.

Samsung Galaxy Tab commercial makes iPad owners drool. Battle of the tablet commercials

GALAXY Tab (P1000) Product image 1 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

The Samsung Galaxy Tab was officially announced last week and first impressions is that it’s a worthy optional tablet compared to the iPad. Note I didn’t’ say it was an iPad Killer as I don’t believe any future tablet will be an iPad killer as the iPad has way to much of a market share along with the thousands of apps via Apple’s App store. The iPad is here to stay. As we wait for the iPad to receive the iOS 4 upgrade, front and rear cameras, the iPad may be unstoppable to compete with. But until then the Galaxy Tab is making it’s case as the alternative must have tablet.

One of the main features outside of the Android OS are the rear and front face cameras. One for taking pictures and the other for video calling. Oh Ah, right? Samsung also released the first Galaxy commercial showing it’s unique features, especially the ones that the iPad are lacking such as Swype, Augmented Reality & Video Calling and more.

01 September 2010

Berlin, Germany, September 2nd, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in mobile technology, today announced the launch of the Samsung GALAXY Tab (Model: GT-P1000). At the same time, Samsung unveils ‘Media Hub,’ a gateway to a world of films and videos, and ‘Music Hub,’ an application giving access to a wide range of music tunes.
The Samsung GALAXY Tab has made rich communication truly mobile; it presents a level of converged technology that moves beyond mobile or PC to an entirely new category. Users have new powers to consume, create and communicate from wherever they are.
Powerful, always-on communication
With 3G HSPA connectivity, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth® 3.0, the Samsung GALAXY Tab enhances users’ mobile communication on a whole new level. Video conferencing and push email on the large 7-inch display make communication more smooth and efficient. For voice telephony, the Samsung GALAXY Tab turns out to be a perfect speakerphone on the desk, or a mobile phone on the move via Bluetooth® headset.
Powered by a Cortex A8 1.0GHz application processor, the Samsung GALAXY Tab is designed to deliver high performance whenever and wherever you are. At the same time, HD video contents are supported by a wide range of multimedia formats (DivX, XviD, MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and more), which maximizes the joy of entertainment.
While the front-facing camera allows face-to-face video telephony over 3G, the rear-facing camera captures still images and video that you can edit, upload and share, all without any hassle. As online content explodes, the Samsung GALAXY Tab is the best portable solution for every lifestyle that needs a constant connection.
The Samsung GALAXY Tab will be launched in Europe in mid September, and in other markets including Korea, the US and Asia in coming months.

As an iPad owner/gadget lover I must admit I’m a little jealous of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Want to see what I’m talking about? Watch the first commercial of the Samsung Galaxy Tab below. Also, watch the latest Apple iPad commercial.

After watching both videos which tablet would you buy?

The official Twitter for iPad app now available, is it the best Twitter app for the iPad? Screenshots

Last night Twitter finally updated their Twitter app for the iPad [iTunes link]. The update makes their current Twitter app universal, meaning its one app that’s optimized for both the iPhone and  iPad so users don’t have to download two apps for both platforms. I’ve blogged over the months since the iPad was released about the numerous amounts of Twitter iPad apps but now that Twitter has realsed their app is it the best Twitter app for the iPad? I think it’s too early to tell but by the feedback from the blogospher it sounds that way. Besides why would you pay $9.99 or $4.99 for other Twitter iPad apps when the official app is free and works great?

From iTunes what’s new in Twitter 3.1

Twitter for iPad launches in this version:
Discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world with the official Twitter for iPhone app.
Realtime search, Top Tweets, trending topics and maps show whats happening now everywhere and nearby.

What is Twitter for iPad? And how is it different from our iPhone app?
Twitter for iPad brings your Tweets together with web pages, photos, videos and more. Tap on any tweet, and a related content pane will open, displaying any linked content from the tweet, including web pages, profile information, hashtag searches and similar users. Slide panels from side to side and quickly navigate through related content.

There’s also easy ways to quickly peek into a tweet
- Pinch on a tweet to quickly unfold related information and actions
- Use two fingers to drag on tweet and reveal replies

Here are a few screenshots of Twitter for the iPad.

Here are a few notes on the official announcement from Twitter’s blog about new features for  Twitter for the iPad:

Panes: Tapping on a Tweet opens a pane to the right. Depending on the content in that Tweet, you’ll see a video or photo, or maybe a news story, or perhaps another Tweet. You can continue tapping on Tweets, opening new panes, and getting new content as long as you’d like to. And, it’s really easy to move between panes by swiping to the right or left.

Media: When you tap a video link or open a web page with an embedded video, you can play that video inline. And, let’s be honest, video is great but sometimes it can take some time to load. The panes in Twitter for iPad let you look through your timeline while a video is loading, and then you can just swipe back to the video when it’s ready to play. You can also pinch on a video to watch it fullscreen.

Gestures: You can pinch on a Tweet to quickly view details about the author and to take actions on a Tweet, such as reply or retweet. Put two fingers together and pull down on a Tweet to peek at the replies, showing the entire conversation leading to that Tweet.

No need to login: You don’t even need to sign up to get started with Twitter for iPad. We’ve selected great Twitter accounts that you can see in various categories, such as Art & Design, Sports, and News. You can also search, view trends, and find breaking news. Sign up at any time to create your own timeline and start tweeting
