Guest Post Author:

Rebecca is blogger by profession. She loves writing on topics related to luxury and fashion. Beside this, she is fond of books. These days she is busy in writing an article on celeb on beach.

Controlling a computer and accessing it remotely is required to stream down the important data from a system to an iPhone. It helps the work to be done conveniently as the user wishes. Google has launched an application named “TelekinesisG” to access a mac system remotely from an iPhone. Controlling a mac from an iPhone is different, interesting and new. It helps in streaming music, videos, browsing important files, performing online searches, performing mouse clicks, running apple scripts, taking pictures in the icamera, entering text in the system using an iPhone. This application is really helpful and simple to work with.

By following the below mentioned steps, a mac can be controlled from an iPhone:
1.From Google code web-site, an iPhone remote needs to be downloaded.
2.Set the price option as “Free”.
3.Install iPhone remote after it has been downloaded.
4.Click open iPhone remote.
5.Create a login id with required password.
6.Go to apple menu in the iPhone.
7.Select System Preferences.
8.Select Network.
9.Select the network connection on which the iphone works from the pop-up menu.
10. Click on the Tcp/ IP tab.
11. An IP address appears.
12. Go to the iPhone and launch Safari.
13. Enter the IP address as :5010. For example, if the IP address found comes to 192.22.22, enter it as 192.22.22:5010.
14. Enter the user name as password created earlier in the iPhone.
15. A set of icons are displayed on the iPhone screen.
16. Click on the icon you want to access.

The mac can be controlled if the internet connection is active on the system and the iPhone as the iPhone depends on the IP address to access data from a mac. The controlling can be done when there is no Local Network connection. It requires being aware of the external IP address. After getting this IP address, the internet router can be set to pass the external traffic and thereafter, it can be connected to a computer. When iPhone remote is not required to be in use, it should not be launched. It helps to retain the security of the iPhone as it disables other sources to access the mac. Despite the inventions of this Telekinesis and other applications, at times the remote controlling does not happens. It can be blamed to the application crashes that happen in the system. Sometimes, the iPhone and system do not support the Telekinesis application.

This has been considered as a useful technique to access the mac remotely as it serves many problems to be solved easily without sticking to the computers for a long time. It helps to work and fix the important issues whenever the user gets leisure time. It does not require to transfer and to store everything in the iPhone to work with. It only accesses the files and after working on those files, it is again saved in the computer. Eventually, it is proved to be time saving and comfortable way of performing the tasks.

Random thoughts, rants, goals and dreams!

Confession:
I want to change the world. I don’t want to occupy the world but change it.
When I change the world it’s not going to be how others think I should change the world or who I change the world with but my plans are to change the world.
To change the world, I have to change myself first and a lot of other things.
I have a few ideas about how I plan to change the world but they’re just ideas to change the world.
I do know that I’m not going to change the world by running for a political office or marching or rioting.
My ideas to change the world may reflect a small percent of the world and how people view a certain demographic of the world or people or view point but when I reach my goal, I will change the world.
I’m not going to change the world by myself.
I don’t know who’s going to change the world with me.
It’s not going to be easy to change the world, it never is, never have been or will be but I rather try to change the world than do nothing.
I want to change the world not for my personal gain but for those yet to live, grow up or who knows the world needs changing.
I’m not going to change the world how I am today, a lot has to change, but I’m up for the challenge to change the world.
When I do change it may happen in my life time or not but when you look back I hope you can at least say I tried to change the world.
I want to change the world for a better place for you and me… (insert “we are the world music”) I wish more people would want to change the world too.
What changing the world means to me may not mean the same to you but in my goals by you reading this means I’m already starting to change the world.
I have a lot to learn now, before and during trying to change the world but I’m up for the challenge.
Some of you are not going to like me while I’m trying to change the world.
While I’m changing the world I’ll look at how it impacts individual minds, our society, and our culture.
I don’t want to change the world just my way or your way but hopefully in a better way.
I don’t see changing the world as having a start or finish but an ongoing journey of goals, life lessons, conversations impacting individuals to become better and reach their goals even if that means one person at a time to help them change the world too.
Thank you to the people who have changed my world who have enabled me to help change the world.
I hope you change the world too.

To be continued…

Quote: Steve Jobs
“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith”

“You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. ”

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”

“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

From: Real Clear Politics Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), who admits to owning an iPad, blames the Apple Inc. product for “eliminating thousands of American jobs.”

“A few short weeks ago I came to the House floor after having purchased an iPad and said that I happened to believe, Mr. Speaker, that at some point in time this new device, which is now probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs. Now Borders is closing stores because, why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes & Noble? Buy an iPad and download your newspaper, download your book, download your magazine,” Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL, Chicago) said on the House floor Friday afternoon.

Ironically, it was only last month that Rep. Jackson was promoting the Apple iPad and Amazon on the House floor.

My thoughts:

Ok I try to avoid talking about politics but this one touches a nerve. First make sure you watch the video on Real Clear Politics website. I mean, I get what Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is saying and If you really think about it, he’s part right. The iPad is made in China, and Borders is closing stores. But there’s a lot more other factors that come into play to why Borders is closing doors. Also note Borders has their own ebook (digital book) reader as well. So Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. you can’t blame the iPad.

Also as the publishing industry has been under “attack” from the decline in newspaper sales and more, changes must happen for the industry to continue. It’s called innovation and adoption. It’s what the New York Times is doing with their apps and why we have new apps like the Daily. Also not to mention how much money Apple has allowed for developers to make. If I’m a publisher or write or in the publishing industry I would have been thinking about mobile like… 4 years ago.

So while “I get” what Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr is saying, I believe it to be a very incorrect statement and a sign of how technology is progressing industries into new directions. Also it’s up to each individual to continue to learn and grow to stay current with today’s job / technology industry. It’s not easy but it’s life.

RealClearPolitics – Video – Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Blames The iPad For Killing Jobs.

Last week a post called “Startup America needs to look more like America” by Kalimah Priforce that was reposted on Quora fired up a debate between some noted Silicon Valley venture capitalist and other startups founders. The post led to a follow up post by Kalimah called “MAKING HISTORY | WILL SUPER ANGELS & TECH MAVENS CLOSE THE MINORITY-LED STARTUP GAP?. The debate and conversations were also continued on HackerNews. In other words, it’s a touchy subject.

Yesterday President Barrack Obama held what the various blogs are calling “tech supper with the stars” and the White House released a photo of a big cheers moment at the dinner table as you can see below.

From devicemag here’s the full list of attendees according to the NY Times, LA Times and SF Chronicle:

John Doerr, partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers
Carol Bartz, president and CEO, Yahoo!
John Chambers, CEO and chairman, Cisco Systems
Dick Costolo, CEO, Twitter
Larry Ellison, co-founder and CEO, Oracle
Reed Hastings, CEO, NetFlix
John Hennessy, president, Stanford University
Steve Jobs, chairman and CEO, Apple (seated next to Obama, above)
Art Levinson, chairman and former CEO, Genentech
Eric Schmidt, chairman and CEO, Google
Steve Westly, managing partner and founder, Westly Group
Mark Zuckerberg, founder, president and CEO, Facebook (seated next to Obama, above)

Wow, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during the dinner. You can’t argue that everyone on the list is deserving and I like the male to female ratio. But there was not one minatory Silicon Valley CEO or founder worthy or available to attend? I know there are debates about why each of the individuals where invited. You can read about that via a Search Engine Land post called “Who Sat Where? Why Was He There?“.

It’s not like there are no black founders, entrepreneurs, and executives in Silicon Valley because there’s a list on Quora here: Who are some notable black founders, entrepreneurs, and executives in Silicon Valley? At least they could have invited @MCHammer. Maybe next time guys!

Just a simple observation and if you attend a lot of technology events, conferences, or meetup the diversity ratio at the dinner table is about accurate how it is outside of the bubble.

I normally don’t blog about race or the lack there of in the web/tech/startup space but it’s becoming more of a hot topic and a much needed conversation. Plus I’m doing my 28daysofdiversity.com series and the dinner photo just made me think about it even more. #justsayin

As I’ve been in the technology space for over 12 years one thing I’m tired of is all of the technology rumors. One of the most hyped rumors of all time is when or if Verizon will start selling the iPhone. Just do a Google Blog Search for “verizon iphone” and I’m sure between all the tech blogs and the AT&T users who want to switch to Verizon or the Verizon users who want the iPhone everyone is saying finally or will they?

Come Tuesday, January 11, 11:00 A.M., also known as 1.11.11. Verizon is to make an announcement in New York. Verizon has sent out the following non transferable announcement to selected technology bloggers and media outlets.

Also note during the Verizon wireless CES keynote there were no mentions of Verizon starting to sell the iPhone.

Now that the stars have aligned with the reports/rumors of the $50.00 AT&T iPhone 3Gs pricing, Apple blocking employees vacation days and the mandatory Verizon face-to face training Jan 25 to Feb 4, the Verizon iPhone is about to become a reality. So it seems.

The rumors are pointing to the Verizon iPhone media event on January 11 with the iPhone going on sell at Verizon starting February 3, 2011. Will it happen? Only time well tell. If not, expect the sky to fall, riots at Verizon stores, stocks to crumble and all heck to break lose on the blogosphere…. maybe.

For an added bonus, BGR is also guessing a big super bowl Verizon iPhone commercial push being the iPhone release date (February 3) is the same week.

Are you going to buy an iPhone on Verizon?

Earlier this year I wrote a blog post about how to find iPad apps seen in commercials. Since then, I receive tons of Goggle search results from people still trying to find the apps featured in the iPad commercials. The previous post said to look for the the banner ad in iTunes that reads “Apps from iPad TV Ads” that links to this iTunes url: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?fcId=376895159. Now it seems as if the Apps from iPad TV Ads section in iTunes have not been updated for a while.

Now the best way to find featured apps from iPad commercials is on the iPad. Just launch the “App Store” application on the iPad scroll to the bottom and look in the “Quick Links” section. From there you will see a link that reads, “Apps from iPad TV Ads”. Click on that link and it will take you to the page below.

I would hope Apple continues to update the section in iTunes but it does make perfect sense to have the section in the App Store on the iPad assuming iPad owners are looking for iPad apps seen in Apple ads.

If you have not seen Apple’s latest commercial. Watch the, “the iPad Is Amazing” video below.

UPDATE:
Read: The best way to find featured apps from iPad commercials

As I look at my analytics to SocialWayne.com I’ve noticed an increase of people searching for iPad apps they see in the commercials. This is because of a few blog post about Twitter iPad apps and Apple’s latest iPad commerical that shows all of the native apps beside the Twitter web app. The six primary iPad commercial search terms I’m receiving traffic for are:

ipad commercial apps

ipad apps in commercial

ipad apps from commercial

apps in ipad commercial

apps on the ipad commercial

new iPad commercial apps

As I try to add value to my site, I want to make sure readers find what they’re looking for when they arrive here. I’m not sure why people start with Google first but to find the iPad apps that are featured in the iPad commercial they need to look no further than iTunes. There’s a banner ad that reads “Apps from iPad TV Ads” that links to this iTunes url: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?fcId=376895159. The banner ad then takes you the iTunes window below where you can find all of the iPad apps from Apple’s iPad commercials.

Take a look at the new Apple iPad is Delicious commercial below. It shows a variety of new and old iPad apps. Flipboard is featured along with a variety of other apps showing iPad gaming, drawing, and calculating capabilities. If you look at the 19 seconds mark it shows the Twitter “website” then the words friendly. The only problem is there is no official Twitter iPad app yet. I know the video wasn’t necessarily about Twitter but it seem to be about iPad apps. Was it that important to show the iPad “tweeting” even though there is no official Twitter iPad app available yet? #justsayin

According to the post we don’t know what apps the band used but those are three iPads being played in the video. Now we can say that Apple will kill music instruments! Joke! But still, think about how much equipment bands travel with and what if they could use a few iPads and have the same or better quality when preforming. Apple could change the offline music industry in an entire new way. Don’t believe me? Just watch the music Video: i(Pad) of the Tiger: An iPad music video below.

As many of you know there’s an unofficial no google apps allowed rule in the iTunes app store. Well, not really but we’re still waiting on the official Google Voice and Gmail native apps to be approved. In the mean time developer Alberto García Hierro has managed to have approved a Google Latitude app called “Latitudie” [iTunes link] .

Google Latitude lets you see your friends on a map on Google Maps for mobile and iGoogle. Use Latitude to plan an impromptu meetup, see that a loved one got home safely, or just stay in touch with friends.

So, how does Latitudie work? It does a few things; one it uses your iPhone 3G and up or iPad GPS to find your location, updates your Google Latitude location and it shows your location account. Latitudie also has a location history view where you can delete past locations. Sounds simple enough right? But wait there’s more, it also runs in the background. Sounds like automatic checking in to me.

Reading the reviews, some have said this app will drain your battery in 30 minutes or less because even if you’re not running iOS4 Latitudie will run in the background and update your location every minute causing massive battery drain. The developer has stated this is a bug in version 1.0 and will be fixed in version 1.1 as soo as Apple approves it or if Apple approves it. Here’s a note from the developer on the upcoming Latitudie 1.1 features:

Latitudie 1.1, adding the following features, has been sent to Apple for review and should be available soon:

- Added support for location updates in the background using high precision
- Added support for periodically updating your location when running on the background, even if you haven’t moved
- Added support for temporarily hiding your location
- Fixed a bug which updated your location too fast

But wait.. should have Apple have approved this app from the start, being that it’s Google Latitude and it doesn’t work like it should have?

Regardless if you’re looking for a Google Latitude app for the iPhone or iPad Latitudie is available. Something Android users have installed by default.

Do you use Google Latitude? If so how? Do you have Latitudie installed?

Also they admitted the signal drops if you hold the iPhone 4 a certain way but also says it worked the the same for previous iPhone models. Here’s an excerpt from the official press release via Apple.

Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.
To fix this, we are adopting AT&T’s recently recommended formula for calculating how many bars to display for a given signal strength. The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone’s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area. We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see.
We will issue a free software update within a few weeks that incorporates the corrected formula. Since this mistake has been present since the original iPhone, this software update will also be available for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.
We have gone back to our labs and retested everything, and the results are the same— the iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. For the vast majority of users who have not been troubled by this issue, this software update will only make your bars more accurate. For those who have had concerns, we apologize for any anxiety we may have caused.
As a reminder, if you are not fully satisfied, you can return your undamaged iPhone to any Apple Retail Store or the online Apple Store within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.

Wow! We’ll maybe all the blogging, YouTube videos and fake emails worked. I hope everyone can calm down now and just wait for the iOS 4 software update.

What are your thoughts on the Apple press release? Are you going to return your iPhone 4?

Just scan to the front page of Techmeme.com to see some of the news about the iPhone 4, Apple and lawsuits. Despite selling a record number of iPhone 4 mobile phones at launch problems about the iPhone 4 actually started coming in before the launch date ranging from yellow spots to bad cell service. I was one of the brave (some call fools) individuals who stood in line for an iPhone 4 and so far I have noticed the cell service is not as good as it was with the iPhone 3 Gs but it’s not terrible either. I did purchase a non bumper case a few days ago and I have seen no difference in cell phone performance.

Regardless of the iPhone 4 problems or not, the amount of blog post, tweets and news we’re seeing about the iPhone 4 is ridiculous. If there is a real problem with the latest iPhone I’m sure Apple will release a fix soon. In the mean time, there are people starving, an economy in trouble and some people creating some awesome products in the tech world that we could be blogging about and covering instead of complaining about the iPhone 4. Especially if you own an iPhone 4. Create your youtube videos, do your test, tell your friends that you’re having problems with your iPhone 4. But remember it was just last week and you’re under the 14 day window to return your iPhone and if you’re that unhappy about the iPhone 4 take your $199 and buy the HTC EVO or wait for the Droid X or just go back to your iPhone 3Gs if you havn’t sold it.

So please stop complaining about your new iPhone 4 or just Take It Back!

Here’s a fun how to handle weird customer support phone calls without getting freak out story. You knew someone was going to do something crazy when it was announced that Apple had setup a 1-888-FACETIME (188832238463) number so iPhone 4 users could test out FaceTime and talk to an live Apple rep. Now we have a YouTube video of a puppet making a FaceTime call. I wonder after this will we see Darth Vader and more cast of characters making FaceTime videos on youtube. Regardless check out the funny video below to see what happens when a puppet makes a FaceTime call to Apple.

I’m glad the employee didn’t hang up or get mad or insult the puppet or we would probablly see a rush in blog post about bad customeor support and/or “Apple Employee hangs up on puppet” type post. But this is another example of good customer service by Apple and for anyone on how to handel weird/puppets phone calls.

I’m a big fan of FaceTime, as it’s one of the reason I stood in line for 4 1/2 hours to buy an iPhone 4. Here are a couple of screenshots testing FaceTime with @Jakrose and @evancarroll.

I first saw the tweet from @Andybeal about “red duck tape” and was like what in the world. So I clicked on it, taking me to the @Fastcompany article about using scotch tape on the iPhone 4 to fix the signal. Here’s the link: The $0.001 DIY iPhone 4 Antenna Fix. But I wanted video proof, so I found a video from chedacheese on @Youtube. Take a look at the video to learn how to use scotch tape to fix your iPhone 4 signal!

Apparently Mr. Steve Jobs sent an email saying to just hold the phone another way or buy a bumper case. I’m shaking my head at you Steve!
Although the mall apparently had been open all night for people to start lining up at the Apple store’s front doors, I arrived at Crabtree bright and early at 5:00am, thinking that the mall wouldn’t open until 5:30am. To my surprise, we found two separate lines forming, one for those with iPhones reserved and another for those without a reservation. There were only about 50 people in the reservation line by the time we arrived at 5am, but unfortunately we found ourselves behind at least 150 others without reservations.

The lines already forming on either side of the Apple store at 5:00am

As early as it was, people were generally in good spirits and playing nice. Some were still sleeping from the overnight camp while others took the time to catch up on their laptops or iPads even though the reception and WiFi service was pretty slow. One person even brought his guitar and played it in the beach chair he brought. Everyone slowly started making friends with their neighbors in line knowing that they may be in it for the long haul.

Around 6:15am a few Apple employees brought out 10 dozen or so Dunkin Donuts to feed the early morning crowd. A good sign of things to come!

Anticipation grew as 7:00am neared. A few minutes before 7am, employees took down the black curtain that prevented us from getting a sneak peak into the preparation for all the madness that was about to ensue and the crowd cheered for the first time.

You can see how fast the donuts went!

Immediately after the curtain fell (at 7:00am on the dot), 20 or so Apple employees came rushing out of the service door, running, screaming, and high-fiving everyone in line. We were all surprised, but it seemed like a great way to get the started!

Minutes later the doors finally opened at Apple and they started letting in about 10 people from the reservation line for every 1 person in the regular line. Needless to say, the reservation line moved pretty quickly for the first few hours while us in the regular line sat in the same place (only moving perhaps a foot an hour) for those first few hours.

The beginning of the non-reservation line...not moving

But around 11am we at the middle/back of the non-reservation line started heering loud mysterious cheers from the front of our line. Ended up they were just cheering every time someone from our line got to enter the Apple store, approximately every 10-15 minutes. It was pretty motivating, to say the least. After being there for 6+ hours I think Apple realized they needed to keep us customers still in line motivated as well. They started going down the line handing out packs of pretzels and Ritz crackers, bottles of water, and then all sorts of candy just as if it were Halloween.

Apple employees handing out snacks

Not only that, but just around lunch time, Subway staff came around passing out mini ham & turkey subs! Lunch? Really? Amazing. Then more candy. Then more water. Followed by Lindt chocolate passing out those little chocolates to anyone who wanted some. In the late afternoon Bare Essentials even passed out free makeup samples to all the girls. This line wasn’t actually half bad, huh?

Subway ladies passing out free lunch!

The line was moving about 5 minutes per person in line. I calculated I wouldn’t get into the store until 4:00pm at the earliest, but I stayed optimistic that perhaps it would start moving more quickly. By 3:00 I could start feeling the finish line as there were only 40-50 people ahead of me to go. We stayed energized by our new friends that we had just gotten to know over the past 10 hours. It was as if we’d known these people for months. We were never bored, but still eager to get through the line and back to our lives.

Here we could see the end of the line ahead...

But then something amazing happened. A young man approached us in line asking how long we’d been waiting here in line (this was typical as all the regular mall-goers had been asking all day what we were

Robin Patterson (a.k.a. God for the day) of Best Buy mobile

waiting in line for). When we told him since 5am, he told us that he worked over at Best Buy mobile and had a reservation for one of the 16GB iPhones cancel and he was offering it to me. Pure luck? An act of God? Either way, I left my place in line and followed “God” to his Best Buy mobile store and promptly paid for, activated, accessorized, and left the store with my new iPhone 4 in hand.

Upon leaving the mall I walked past my new friends who were still waiting in line and showed off my new gear.

They probably waited in line for another hour. Sorry Apple, you treated me really really well for those 11 hours, but in the end Best Buy mobile man saved the day!

Guest post by: @PennyMoxie

I told the guy who would be buying my old phone that I would call him when I was out of the Apple store. ”What time do you think that will be”, he asked. I wanted to be CONSERVATIVE, so I replied, “about 9:00am. I’m getting there at 6:45, so i can’t imagine it will take that long.” I’m a first-class fool.

6:30am I put my 5-year-old in the car and told her she was going with me to “pick-up my new iPhone” at the mall. I figured she would get fidgety in the store, but we wouldn’t be there that long. At one point, while driving to Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, NC, my daughter asked, “Mommy, what is wrong?” I told her I was anxious and had a lot to do today. ”I just want to get in, get out, and get you to the pool with your aunt,” I said. A few minutes later, we pulled into the mall parking lot and I looked at all the cars. I think I said out loud, “Elin, these cars must be mall employees and the people who walk the mall when it’s too hot outside. Surely, they can’t all be here for the new iPhone.” Again, first-class fool.

We park and head in. I can’t begin to articulate how I felt the first time I got a look at the crowd. The line. The masses. I’ve been at Crabtree Valley Mall on Black Friday and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many people on one floor. I’ve been to Disney World and I’ve never seen a line that long. I took and deep breath, tried to remain cool, and walked around the people with sleeping bags and lawn chairs. I kept walking. I walked some more, turned 4 corners, went down a hallway and into the food court. I saw the end of the line and like a first-class fool, I decided to stand in it.

But then things really started looking up. I was NOT a fool. I had reserved my iPhone and I was in the correct line. Clearly, there were only 200 people in this line. Whew! My goal of 9:00am was totally do-able. Smile on face, cocky swagger kicking in.

8:40 am After a visit from my husband with Starbucks in one hand and muffin the other, I was feeling pretty refreshed. My daughter was chill and I spotted two other moms who had brought their kids. I wasn’t the worst mom on the planet…just 3rd or 4th. It was going a little slower than I thought, but I knew there were only 150 people in front of me MAX and the line seemed to be moving.

9:30am I turned the corner and saw the store! I was in! Maybe 75 people in front of me. I was golden.

9:31am A lovely mall security officer came over and said, “we are going to move this line. We need to get the food court cleared for lunch.” There were 400 people behind me at this point, so this made sense. We were herded like techy-nerd cattle and put into a line down the hallway. This is when my day was officially over. I realized the line I was in, which had put me close to the entrance of the store, actually wrapped around the perimeter of the mall. There were 700 people IN FRONT of me. Good-bye, day.

10:00am My 5-year-old was a little antsy, so I called Aunt Bonnie to give her some relief. ” PLEASE come and pick her up and take her to the pool!”

10:30am Aunt Bonnie arrives and my daughter informs me she would like to stay. She wants to see what’s behind those glass doors. No way is she missing out. This is actually the most compelling part of the day. The excitement in the mall was energizing. These 2000 people were all pumped. We were surrounded by strangers but we all had something in common. The converstation for the last 3 hours was high def camera, retina screens, mult-tasking and apps. It was a mall full of people, some who had been since 10pm the night before, some who were just hanging with friends. But we were wired from the thrill of the hunt because we were all early-adapters. My daughter had picked up on this energy, and she wasn’t leaving.

11:00am Did I mention energy? I introduced my daughter to suicide drills, which she executed beautifully in front of Bath and Body Works.

11:30am Food! Apple paid for a truck load of subs.

12:30pm My iPhone 3GS is dead. This is the worse possible thing that could have happened. No more tweeting. No more facebook. This day was going downhill fast.

12:30pm – 1:59pm This was not pretty. It was still exciting and the energy was great, but I was starting to smell and my neighbors were realizing I skipped my usual hygiene routine this morning (remember, I was going to be home by 9…I would bathe then). We were all hungry and thirsty. We weren’t talking as much. The guys at the Brookstone store were laughing at us. Actually, everyone not involved in this insanity were laughing. They walked by the nerds behind the rope lines and pointed. ”No way” and “idiots” was overheard many times. I was starting to agree.

2:00pm I’m the next in line to enter the store. I’m feeling good. The lighted apple icon above me was almost a symbol of success. The finish line. At this point, it’s not about the phone, it’s about finishing this marathon.

2:05pm I’m in the store. I can’t believe it. My sister (Aunt Bonnie) is documenting on her iPhone. The employees were calm, the store was comfortable, the police officers out front didn’t arrest my sister for photographing an Apple store. But most importantly, I had my new iPhone. I did not have a shower, and that was the next thing on my list. I know my line mates were thinking the same thing (about me, not them).

2:45pm Home. Synced. My daughter starving. My voicemail going nuts. I don’t care. I stood in line for 7 hours to get a phone I could have ordered and had shipped to my house by mid-July. But I’m a first-class fool. A first-class fool with a sweet iPhone.

With iOS4 to be made public on Monday and the pre-release sold out iPhone 4 to launch next Thursday it looks like apps are getting ready for Apple’s iAds. If you’re an app developer it’s a smart move being the potential of how much money you could make by having your app ready for all of those new iPhone 4 users.

What are your thoughts on iAd? Do you think you’ll click on an iAd more than you would a text or regular ad?

PS: I never did make it to the movies.

Yesterday, Steve Jobs graced the stage at WWDC 2010 to announce the iPhone 4, iOS and allowed Zynga to demo Farmville for the iPhone. Gadget, social media and Apple fanboy blogs live blogged and lusted over the new iPhone and and the upcoming features of iOS but here are a few quotes/notes that Steve Jobs made during WWDC that stand out to me that I don’t see to many bloggers talking about.

1. “Apple / iTunes has the over 150 million user accounts with credit cards enabled for one-click purchasing. Making it the largest store online.”
Why is this big? When you think about online stores you think about Amazon, ebay etc but with the success of iTunes and App store Apple tops them all. Apple may not sell other electrionics that are not compatible with their hardware but if you’re in the music or book industry or a developer why not have your product for sell in iTunes? There are over 150 million credit cards waiting to buy your product.

2. The A4 processor
First off every current iPhone user should be jumping for joy because the A4 processor is the savor of iPhone battery life. But now with the A4 processor being included in the iPhone 4 and the iPad when or if will we see the A4 processor in other Apple hardware such as the Apple TV? Everyone is waiting to see an Apple TV and Mac Mini upgrade and they could they be the first devices outside of the iPad and iPhones to include the A4? Well, you may not waiting on the Mac Min upgrade but you know what I mean.

3. Apple paid over $1 billion to iPhone developers so far!
Wow, was my first reaction when Steve Jobs showed the check on stage of $1 billion dollars. Now I see why developers get so upset when there app is rejected. I often tell people about why Apple has been so successful is that they make products that allows others to make money off of their products. Just look at the accessory business for the iPhone and the new line of bags/cases for the iPad. Now with iAd Apple is looking to help monetize their entire mobile platforms from iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. If Apple can help brands generate millions using iAD they will be cutting not only developers a huge check but brands as well.

I do have a question around HTML5 apps. If developers start to launch more web apps outside of Apple’s control how or if will Apple try to restrict access to those HTML5 apps that include ads not associated with Apple or iAd? I don’t think they can but if developers want to serve ads outside of iAd a HTML5 web app may be the way to go.

4. The next generation iPad is going to be awesome!
I could be wrong but I don’t remember reading anything about when iOS4 will be available for the iPad but regardless by looking at hardware specs of iPhone 4, the next generation iPad is going to be amazing. I currently own an iPad and the display i great, runs the A4 processor but I’m sure the next iPad will include a front faceing camera supporting Facetime, the Retina Display technology and the new new gyro sensor. If I wasn’t such an Apple fanboy I would have waited too but for those of you who have, the new iPad is going to be worth it.

Don’t’ get me wrong, I’m excited about the iPhone 4 so I can record videos, edit them in iMovie for the iPhone and have video calls with my friends/partners using Facetime but from these overlooked snippets of the WWDC keynote Apple is truly going for mobile/world domination online and offline. I’ll see you in line on June 24!

Over the weekend some of the blogs were reporting that a few Apple Stores had started receiving shipments of the iPad Camera Connection Kit. So immediately I started calling the local Apple Stores in Raleigh and Durham initially with no luck.

But what do you know, it’s Tuesday after 10:00 AM and the Apple Store in Raleigh, NC have the iPad Camera Connection Kits in stock. I figured if the camera connection kits sells out as fast as the Apple cases do, I better try to buy one asap.

So how does it work? Great, check out the photo below. It was imported from my iPhone to my iPad using the kit. Also I’ve read that the connection kit will support USB audio headsets. I’ll give that a try later. Now if they hurry up and jailbreak the iPad I’m sure we’ll have USB camera support soon!

FYI, the case & other iPad connection kit is for moms; @gwensutton on Twitter.

Do you have the iPad connection kit yet?

If you have been anywhere near the internet the last few days I’m sure you have heard the story about Apple’s lost iPhone. I’m not going to go into details about it because it has already been well document all over the social web but you can read more about it here via Gizmodo “How Apple Lost the Next iPhone” But in short Gray Powell, a North Carolina State University 2006 graduate went out for drinks on his birthday and lost the next generation iPhone and the rest is pretty much been capitalized by blogosphere and Grays future with Apple is unknown at this point.

photo via Gizmodo

Today I saw a sad update on the case of the lost next generation iPhone on cnet.com were they interviewed Gray’s father saying that Gray is “devastated” and I can only image what he’s going through. Gray has the dream job that many people would die for, to work at Apple and not only work for Apple but to work in the department that test the next generation iPhones. Now with “social media” and blogs doing almost anything for traffic paying $5,000 for a lost or stolen next generation iPhone, Gray Powell name will be marked in the social web history books as the guy who went out to drink on his birthday, lost/forgot his iPhone and caused a PR media social web nightmare for Apple and an entire case study on blogs and journalism will come out of it.

So what’s next for Gray? At this point I think only Steve Jobs, Apple’s HR department and Gray knows as the world waits to see what will become of his job status with Apple. Some have said it was a simple mistake and some think for sure Gray will be fired. Regardless of what happens here are 6 ways I think Apple can fix Gray Powell’s personal brand/PR problem and look awesome by doing so.

Use Gray Powell in a new iPhone commercial showcasing MobileMe remote wipe/find features

Bring Gray Powell on stage to announce the next generation iPhone in June (rumor)

Record a video Q&A with Steve Jobs, Gray and the iPhone team discussing the entire situation and use that to opportunity to announce the date for the next iPhone event.

There’s an official Apple iTunes twitter account called @iTunesTrailers and at one time I thought @appleinc would become Apple’s official Twitter account but nothing happen. Now would be good time for Apple to enter the “social media” space and allow Gray to be that guy who manages it to talk about the life/culture of Apple. This would not only be for Twitter and Facebook but for blogs as well. Not that Apple needs any social media/marketing help but in this case I believe some sort of crisis management plan would have been a better way of handling the entire situation.

Let the media/bloggers have Gray Powell for interviews…hmmm

Send out a press releases about the entire situation and how Apple plans to prevent things like this happening again.

One or none of the suggested ideas may happen but regardless I wish Gray Powell well and I hope he has a bright future ahead of him at Apple.

*Disclaimer: I live in NC and have friends/partners who work at NC State and Apple but I have had zero contact with Gray or any of his friends or family members regarding the situation.

What would you like to see happen with the case of the missing iPhone and between Gray and Apple?

Some you’re familiar with and others I feel like are just trying to get your $2.99 or $0.99 by tagging their app with the word tweet and throwing up a makeshift twitter bird icon.

When the iPad first launched two twitter apps that are highly used among iPhone users were available such as Twitterrific and Tweetdeck. Soon to follow was Twittelator and I have never used Tweetings before but now they have released an iPad version of their Twitter app as well. Here’s a list of my top 4 Twitter apps for the iPad.

Twitterrific

Tweetdeck

Twittelator

Tweetings

As for my favorite Twitter iPad app I’m using Twitterrific as I found some of the other three to be slow. It will be interesting to see how well these apps and some of the other Twitter Apps do after Tweetie is updated for the iPad aka Twitter for the iPad is released.

If you have an iPad what Twitter app are you using?

I currently have a Sprint 3G MiFi card but I recommend a Sprint overdrive or similar device. I keep hear great things about Clear & Verizon MiFi cards too. Note: You can use a pocket router that turns your USB modem into a hotspot as well.

2. PhoneBooth or Google Voice for multiple numbers

Currently I have a cell phone number, a Skype number and multiple @PhoneBooth business phone numbers . I can use my PhoneBooth or Google Voice number as my main number and let one or the other route the calls to the device I’m connected to a the time or send calls straight to voicemail.

3. Google Voice for voice mail and Free SMS

Thinking Google Voice may be my main number allowing me to filter my calls, access my voice messages via email. I can also send sms messages via email and use the Google Voice website (mobile/desktop versions) to send sms messages for free.

4. Skype

I currently have a Skype number and a Skype Out plan to call any phone or other Skype users and for my number to show when I make calls.

5. iPad/iPhone

Yes, I could do all of this with the iPhone but now with the iPad and the battery life it provides makes the process a lot easier. I can leave Skype running and access my voice/sms messages on a bigger device increasing my user experience.

Simple Pros:
Saving money: I’ll have a simple $40 to $60 data only bill vs a $100 plus AT&T iPhone bill along with being able to have a mobile hotspot that I can use anywhere.
Doing something geeky.

Simple Cons:
Carrying multiple devices: I often travel with my Macbook Pro but what about on a casuly night out? I’ll have my MiFi card and/or caring my iPad, iPhone and mifi card.
Battery life on the mifi card: I’ll have to keep a close watch on my MiFi card to make sure I don’t run out of battery power in case I need to make an emergy call or waiting for a call.
Call Quality: Quality of the call will be dertimed by the MiFi signal and Skype until/unless I can make VOIP calls using other apps.
No MMS: I’ll have to go back to sending emails for as MMS messages but it’s something Google Voice has a work around for.
New Number: Giving people a new number and no Google Voice number porting. But I have read reports that soon I’ll be able to port my mobile number to Google Voice.

Other:
I’m not sure if AT&T will block VOIP calls using when the iPad 3G version will be released later this month but if they don’t then you could use the built in 3G instead of a MiFi card.

*Disclaimer the Sprint MiFi card I currently have is a blogger/loaner and I do some consultant work with Bandwidth who owns Phonebooth but this is not a sponsored post for either.

Your thoughts? Are you ready to switch to a mobile VOIP solution? Do you think we’ll see data plans be more important that voice plans in the future?

So today is the big day, Apple “fanboys” and “fanladies” are all hyped up about the announcement of the Apple Tablet, we hope!. If you’re like me then at 1:00 P.M. EST you will be glued to a computer screen either refreshing a page for real-time updates or searching tweets. I’m still waiting for the day when Apple will start to live video stream their events but until then we’re stuck with micro updates from the lucky individuals with press badges who are able to attend the event. While some of you will rely on Tweets and various sources for up to the minute coverage, here’s my list of links for Live Apple Tablet Coverage.

Back in June of 2007 I had this grand idea of launching an iPhone blog called iPhonesinRTP.com. The RTP part was for Research Triangle Park, NC. Meaning the blog was going to be about iPhone users and apps from the area, along with general iPhone and iPhone app news. Since the launched of the iPhone I have published over 255 post and have covered various local Apple events such the original iPhone launch in 2007, along with the iPhone 3Gs launch in 2009. Other blog entries included featuring iPhone wallpapers, tips and iPhone app video reviews.

For the readers of iPhonesinRTP.com I want to say thank you for your support but do to other projects, working at Twine Interactive and launching TriOut with @LawPower my time is very limited. Plus there’s tons of iPhone blogs and it seems like everyone is talking about the app store and covering niche apps on most gadget blogs. I’ll still cover iPhone news and apps here on SocialWayne.com from time to time and will redirect the iPhonesinRTP.com url to this post.

If you would like for me to review your iPhone app please email: pitches at socialwayne dot com .

So today, famed tech blogger, Michael Arrington @arrington of TechCrunch wrote a blog post called, “I quit the iPhone“. Arrington has a large audience that reads his network of blogs and is very successful and popular in terms of his events that he plans in the technology space. In other words Arrington has power and influencer depending on how you look at it. Either way Arrington and I both bloggers and entitled to our own opinions. I would like to think we have a lot in common but he’s a lot more successful than I am at the moment but lets hope that changes in the near future. Nevertheless this isn’t about Wayne vs Arrington but just my thoughts on why I’m not quitting the iPhone for another mobile device.

Here are my reasons.

1. The iPhone OS is the best mobile operating system in terms of usability, period.
2. I don’t want to carry around two devices. Arrington said he will use a Palm Pre and an iPod Touch.
3. I don’t live in a heavily metropolitan area and AT&T 3G service works great for me. I hardly have a drop call but I do notice a difference when I travel to larger cities such as Atlanta and Austin and the service is not as good with more users on AT&T’s network.
4. Apple’s iPhone app store is better than the upcoming Windows Mobile app store, Blackberry, Nokia and Google’s

Photo via http://www.insidefacebook.com
5. The iPhone has the best applications to access social networks such as LinkedIn, MySpace, Facebook etc. Not to mention the new Facebook iPhone 3.0 app is going to be awesome.

6. The iPhone has best Twitter Apps as a matter fact, the App store has to many Twitter apps.
7. I have access to apps that get kicked out of the app store via the Cyida App store. because my I choose to jailbreak my iPhone.

8. I don’t have to wait for AT&T to allow tethering on my iPhone because I already have it via PdaNet without any additional charges.

9. I like to use my iPhone 3Gs for jogging with NikePlus even though the NikePlus site has way to much flash on it’s site but that’s another blog post rant.
10. I own a MacBook and use MobileMe to sync my bookmarks and files that I can access via my iPhone. Plus Apple just released the iDisk iPhone app
11. I enjoy over-the-air calendar and contact syncing with my iPhone using Google Calendar, iCal, Google Contacts and Address book along with my email.

12. The iPhone has the best apps for mobile blogging.
13. I can use the iPhone with iTunes and the Amazon music store.
14. I can run iPhone apps in the background via the backgrounder app and make Skype phone calls over 3G.

15. I have two choices for an app store, Apple’s app store and the Cyida App store.

16. I can theme my iPhone if I choose to do so via the Winterboard app in Cydia.

Those are just a few of my reasons why I’m not quitting the iPhone. I know some are very tedious and Mr. Arrington did say he would be using an iPod Touch therefore he’s not completely leaving Apple or the App store just the iPhone. Also Arrington did acknowledged that he believes the iPhone is the best mobile phone in the market, quote from the TechCrunch article “I’d move to the Palm Pre because I believe it is the best phone out there other than the iPhone 3GS.

But don’t get me wrong, I’m not completely in love with the iPhone or Apple or AT&T and not happy about the recent decisions to remove existing apps or prevent some apps from seeing the light of day in the app store such as GV Mobile, and Google Latitude native app. Also I’ll be very surprise if GPush or a few other apps will ever see the light of day in app store. I’ve been waiting for Qik and Ustream.TV live video streaming apps to be released and only time will tell if Apple will approve them. If not I hope others follow GV Mobile leads and join the Cydia app store, something both Qik and Ustream have already done.

What are your reasons for sticking with the iPhone or did Arrington post convince you to leave AT&T and switch to another device?

Today Apple made the announcement that the app store downloads have top 1.5 billion in the first year. Needless to say I’m not sure how many of those billion downloads where twitter apps but it seems the app store can’t get enough of them. First we had regular send a tweet apps, then tweet upload a photo, change my location apps and now we have push notification Twitter apps. It seems the latest Twitter app store trend since the launch of the iPhone 3Gs are Twitter video apps.

Twitter video apps are apps that allow you to record or upload existing iPhone 3Gs video and send a tweet for your followers to watch the video. Some of the Twitter video apps have their own social network and even allow you to send the video to YouTube, myspace or FaceBook. Take a look at four of the apps below.

1. TwitVid

2. Video Tweets

3. Tweet Media

4. Tweet Reel

Twitter video apps seems to have taken off lately but will they stick? Six months or a year from now will the sites become mini video social networks, will they still be up and running and how are the users using the videos they create along with their existing web presence, mainly their blog?

Either way, I’m still waiting for the 12Seconds.TV iPhone app to be updated, making another iPhone app to allow video publishing. I’m sure with the success of the iPhone 3Gs and Twitter we’ll see more push videos to Twitter apps in the app store soon.

Are you using one of the apps
above to send video to Twitter? If not what app are you using and do you think it’s a good idea?

There have been a few post recently about the disappointment with the battery life of the new iPhone 3Gs. I guess the upgrade Apple made wasn’t satisfying and people are still having to regularly charge their iPhone daily. But don’t worry if keeping your iPhone charged for a full day is your problem then take a look at one of the options below.

Incase battery back.

Richard Solo battery

FuelTank battery

Thanks for the fueltank tip James Wong @communitymgr on Twitter

Kingston Kensington

IV from fastmac

There you have it folks a few battery options to keep your iPhone charged. As for the 99 problems, to me I think there’s only about three or four problems with the iPhone 3Gs now. A missing front face camera, Safari flash support, background applications and the AT&T exclusiveness.

As an iPhone power user, I have the incase iPhone extended battery. Do you have an extended iPhone battery? If so what brand and model.

As the popularity of the iPhone 3Gs grows so seems the amount of mobile video recording and creative ways to use the iPhone 3Gs as a serious video recording device. Since the launch of the iPhone 3Gs YouTube has seen a 1700% increase in mobile video uploads and at lease two music videos (Reyna Perez and Kenny Mosher ) have been produced using just the iPhone. Also we have seen a few custom made iPhone 3Gs shoulder mounts and other handheld devices being made for the up and coming iPhone 3Gs mobile video producer.
OWLE is new on the scene and in the video they plea for AT&T & Apple to allow Qik to be released in the App Store but this device is rumored to be released around Christmas at a reasonable cost betweet $30.00 – $50.00.

5. mini spring clamp
This is my home made solution. I went to my local camera shop, Peace Camera and purchased a mini spring clamp tripod mount that will hold my iPhone.

The clip will attach to my tripod for stable video recording.

Also you can watch the behind the scenes of one of the iPhone 3Gs music videos.

I’m sure by now you know what today is, iPhone 3G S launch day and for the third year in a row I was able to catch up with an old friend and take some pictures/videos of the Apple Store opening plus the hundreds standing in line for the iPhone. When I arrived, I saw Ashton, who for three years in a row now has been first in line to buy the iPhone at the Apple Store in Crabtree Valley Mall. I first met Ashton in 2007 when he purchased the 1st generation iPhone and I was able to take this picture of him, which has been viewed over 5,000 times on flickr and I was recently told it may the first picture of a consumer with the first generation iPhone on the web.

Asthon first in line at the Appe Store 2007

Fast forward three years later, Ashton and I make our yearly routine of meeting at the Apple Store on iPhone launch day and as normal he’s first in line. I must say this year’s iPhone activation seems to have went a lot smother than last years. Ashton walked in the Apple store, told the employee he wanted a white iPhone and it was purchased and activated in about 15 minutes versus the 8 plus hours he spent in the store last year. Then in about another 15 minutes Ashton had his iPhone 3G S synced with his contacts, music and photos loaded. Great job this year by the Raleigh Apple Store team. Also it was interesting to see others who were buying the iPhone 3G S talk about what color they were buying. Most seem to have purchased the white iPhone 3G S 16 GB version, especially if they had purchased a black iPhone last year.

For those of you who are waiting to purchase an iPhone 3G S, I recommend coming in later today to avoid the line and I’m almost sure they won’t run out of iPhones. If you reserved your iPhone you have until today to come pick it up. Below are some more videos and photos from the iPhone 3G S launch at the Raleigh Apple Store in Crabtree Valley Mall.

Did you stand in line for the iPhone 3G S or are you going to wait?

Is this your first iPhone if you purchased an iPhone 3G S today?

Update:
I went to meet some friends in line a few hours later at the Apple Store. The line is still long and it’s a slow process to get everyone into the store because Apple won’t let you leave without the phone being activated.

There’s a new additive app in the iTunes app store called Binary Game [itunes link] made by John Kassimatis @yonnage and Gary Vaynerchuk @garyvee The app cost $1.99 and if you’re good at math and very competitive I recommend you give it a try. Here’s a video screencast of the game.

If you’re watching @garyvee’s twitter stream then I’m sure you know all about the app, take a look at one of the 1st tweets about the game tonight.

I’m starting to see a trend from new iPhone apps being released in the app store. With so many app being created and everyone trying to cash in on the popularity of the iPhone, developers now need to do more marketing for their app to get noticed. But with all the marketing your app still must be interactive, fun and must do more than just fart to make a few thousands dollars from the app store.

With the Binary Game, Gary and John has created an app that’s fun, competitive and social. The game has has it’s own website http://b1narygame.com/ with a Challenge mode & Speed Mode High Scores page where you can see all the top 50 high scores.

Another trend I’m seeing is that almost every new iPhone app has it’s on twitter profile:

The Binary Game twitter profile is @b1narygame With @Garyvee ‘s popularity I’m sure this app will be a success and the @b1narygame profile will have more than 2 followers it has right now.

I’m going to stop here and let you download the game and recommed you give it a try, as I’m going to try to increase my score and stay on the Binary Game top 50 list.

What’s your thoughts on the game? If you have an iPhone app how are you marketing it?
