Gadget! Samsung Galaxy Tab #galaxytab To test out.

Last week I was mailed a Samsung Galaxy Tab via @samsungmobileus to test and review mainly because of a tweet sent by @HarrietCammock asking would I recommend the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

My response at that time was from what I read about the Samsung Galaxy Tab it seems like a great device but I don’t think nothing can compete with the iPad do to the usability and the apps. Now after using the Samsung Galaxy Tab for a few days my opinion has changed. The Galaxy Tab being at 7 inches running Andriod 2.2 is a great device for reading, browsing the web, checking email and being productive on the go. In terms of the applications, it’s comes down to what is available on Apple’s iTunes app store vs Google’s growing Android Market place. There’s also the data coverage options and cost but I will leave that up to you and will stick to comparing the device.

I’m still getting use to the Samsung Galaxy Tab and will post more reviews about it over the next two weeks before I have to return the device to Samsung. In the mean time, here’s my Samsung Galaxy Tab unboxing video that makes my iPad sad.

Do you own a Samsung Galaxy Tab or another Android powered tablet? If so what are your favorite apps? Also if you have any questions about the Galaxy Tab let me know in the comments.

Looking forward to your exhaustive review. As an early adopter of many products, I’ve hesitated on both the iPad and the Galaxy Tab(Sprint). My first in-store test of the iPad just felt right as far as usability. However, the primary deterrent for me was it’s lack multitasking and Adobe Flash. Secondary was a lack of cameras and expandable storage. As a standard user, the iPad delivers a true “magical” experience that Apple is a mater at delivering. As a power user, though, I simply expected a more full-featured.

I’ve tested the Galaxy Tab three times – two times in Best Buy and one in a Sprint Store. The first two tests left me somewhat disappointed in comparison to my initial test with the iPad. The user experience just did not feel the same. Perhaps it was because at Best Buy(Verizon version), they had just set it up and maybe some updates were downloading in the background. The swiping feature appeared rather choppy and apps slow to launch. On a whim, I stopped by the Sprint store yesterday and tested it again and the experience felt much better. Even though I had resigned to waiting until a true tablet optimized experience(Honeycomb) to come to Android tablet devices, I actually left the store yesterday wondering if I am making the right decision by waiting. Angry Birds on the 7″ form factor with such a super crisp display felt – well- magical!

Again, I am eager to review your findings.

Wayne good stuff. Curious if that little smile at the end there came from the freedom of not having the overlord, Steve Jobs controlling your gadgets? ;)

Have you had some time to test it out? Battery life has been the thing I’m most curious about and the biggest pain w/my Android phone.
