Filtering to Gain Social Network Value

If you ask most marketers or individuals they are up to their neck in social media and social networking sites. Many say they don’t have time to manage them. Especially if you work for an agency. I was speaking at a recent SocialFresh event about location-based apps/@Foursquare and mentioned how there are over 60 plus location based services. One lady responded, we have Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and now Foursquare how many more sites/apps will there be? My response was sadly a lot more and if you manage a companies brand with various tools such as Argyle Social, Trackur, Radian6 http://www.argylesocial.com, Trackur and Radian6 get ready for more analytics products to integrate with some of the newer social networks and/or location-based services.

Even though Facebook has 500 million users, Twitter over 11 million and Linkedin over 70 million users that doesn’t mean there’s not a place for a new social networking site to launch and be successful. Especially if it has a niche audience with a great brand. In the past year to six months there has been a recent wave of new niche social networks launched. A few based off of the question and answer format and others are new micro-blogging communities. If you’re an agency or brand I think you should at least create company profiles or have those managing your brand to preform search queries across these new sites for see if they are discussing your products/services or your competitors. Here are eight new social networking sites your brand should monitoring.

Cool list – but Miio is the one for me. Useful, friendly and, most importantly, SOCIAL :o )

Quora is the real deal. High quality content curated by high quality contributors. Find myself spending lots of time on the site.

And thanks for listing Argyle. :)

Of those mentioned, I heart amplify and use it daily.

There are a couple here that are new to me. Of those here, I regularly use amplify. It makes it easy for me to share information quickly — with annotations — with friends, fans and followers.

Great stuff as always Wayne! On the topic of monitoring these new and existing social platforms, there is certainly tremendous value in the social monitoring tools you mention above. My question is this. Why don’t we also use the “free” stuff Google provides us? With Google’s Real Time Search (http://www.google.com/realtime) users of social media can now monitor what is being said about us and our brands by simply setting up Real Time Search notifications (Google Alerts for Real Time Updates). Seems stupid easy to me to use this free tool.

There are 3 here on list that are new to me. Quora is having great content by high quality contributors with questions and answers.

    Great stuff!

    Should?

Should, Wayne? That’s a presumptuous word. Why not change it to could?

I just came across this, but I was considering investment in a network that still hasn’t launched. It all started 14 months ago and it looks like it’s complete and in beta now. The site is http://www.friend.io and like the domain name they call it Friendio for branding reasons. Have you heard of this network? What happens to funding in most cases on these other networks you listed? Do you know if investors have seen good returns from any of the networks you listed? Thanks!

Recently I came across a Social Network on http://www.seemos.com It has some awesome features. On the profile members can upload their favorite mp3 songs and access the play list from any where in the world. There is a range of free flash games also. And also as an usual social network can post status messages, share photos & videos. That was interesting!Try it and see on http://www.seemos.com
