I don’t play any of those type games, but you bring up a very valid point. I don’t believe that video games really make people do anything because they’re mostly fake. Even playing head to head online or something, it’s still pretty impersonal.

This new stuff, though. It’s tied to closely to real people, their profiles, and actual locations. Even where pseudonyms are used, it’s pretty easy to figure out who just “iced” you or something. It just doesn’t seem right somehow, but I can’t put my finger on it.

Wayne, thanks for taking a look at gpsAssassin.

Let me clarify a few things:

    1) most of the “weapons” are actually pretty humorous. For instance, I could “kill” you with a Dirty Diaper or a Nagging Wife (though there are some traditional weapons like switchblades).

    2) we never disclose a player’s location

    3) there is definitely some validity to violence in games de-stigmatizing real-world violence. It is my hope that we are not part of that problem with this game.

Our intent is mostly to razz your friends. I often create custom attacks playing on real world events for people who I know in the game. It provides some relief by making light of some of life’s stresses and jousting with friends for a quick minute in the middle of the day.

Rahsheen and Jackson thanks for the comments.

Jackson thanks for the explanation it does “lighten” things up a little and addresses some concerns I have. But to still market a game or a web app out of killing your neighbor for fun or with diapers” just bothers me a little.
