@Justin – since I do a lot of wordpress sites, I’ve run into this issue. The main way I keep things straight is that I keep copies of each site on my local workstation , and treat the files on the web as throw-away copies. I also use subversion to do my version control, so I never really have to worry about losing the php customizations I make. The things that tend to change the most on the php side are some theme files and maybe plug-in customizations. Keep track of those, a list of your plug-ins, and your database back-ups and you can pretty much recreate your WP blog in a matter of minutes – even on a brand new server.

Justin, nope. About once a month or so I’ll just transfer my files via ftp. I think I could schedule that on my mac using a script though.

We’ve used the WP-DBManager for some time now and really appreciate that we can schedule an automatic back up which is then emailed to us. It has been a reliable tool. The other options are new to us and worth investigating. Thanks for sharing.
