How to unfollow EVERYONE you’re currently following on Twitter for only $25

Twitter

SocialToo - Your Companion to the Social Web!

That’s right folks for only $25.00 you can unfollow everyone on your Twitter account. You can do this with a tool called SocialToo . Unfollowing everyone on or deleting almost everyone on yourTwitter account seems like the new trend for certain colleges in the social web space. @Loic has done it, and it looks like @Scobleizer has cleared out his Twitter followers too.
Twitter / Robert Scoble: @emonome I used @jesse's S ...

But why? I can’t answer for anyone who have chosen to unfollow everyone or cleanup their following list but I have a few ideas such as:
1. With the recent growth of Twitter, it has become to noisy
2. You just want to start fresh with new and some old twitter friends so you can track the conversion better.
3. You want to join the cool unfollow crowd :)

No matter what the reason is, it’s neither a good or bad thing to do because it’s up to the individual to decide how he or she choses to use their own Twitter account. Also SocialToo seems like the tool to use to make it happen. I use SocialToo for some of the other features it has to offer such as turn off automatic direct message from other services and the catch up on all of my previous Twitter followers.

Personally I doubt if I will ever unfollow everyone on my @WayneSutton twitter account, instead I have created mulitpile Twitter accounts to manage the noise and follow certian groups of individuals on Twitter.

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post and I have no investment with the creators of SocialToo.

Do you think you will unfollow everyone on your Twitter account or are you thinking about just deleting your Twitter account all together?

If not SocialToo what tool have you used to unfollow everyone on Twitter?

I did that a few months back. Did not use socialtoo, but it is the tool to use if you are unable to get someone to write a script to do it for you.

Although I did use SocialToo to follow back about 80% of the people ($5). The whole process cleared out most of the spammers and empty accounts from my ranks. For a short stint. It was not a perfect solution by any means, more of an experiment.

I think it is all an ongoing experiment and evolution for most folks. I am like Wayne. I use a couple secondary accounts to follow certain conversations more closely. This is pretty simple these days with most apps allowing multiple account (Tweetdeck and Tweetie) and others soon to follow (Seesmic web).

I think more than ever this reinforces the fact that just because someone is following you doesn’t mean you should immediately follow them back. That’s how the noise ratio creeps up, by reciprocating all the time.

Personally I only follow folks who I know in real life or are developing/designing iPhone or Mac applications. That’s it. My noise level is pretty low because of that.

I try to keep my followers under 100 at all times. Everyone went a little crazy in the beginning with the “I follow you, you follow me” trend and I still see that happening with new users, but Twitter is transforming into my main news source and the less noise I have the better.

Great post, definitely useful for users with a lot of followers. I notice sometimes I unfollow people multiple times to get it to work.

Thanks for your kind comments, Wayne! Just FYI, because of the DDoS, there may be some issues with it today until Twitter gets their stuff in order. I’ll be posting a status update on http://blog.socialtoo.com as we hear more from Twitter.

I remember asking Jesse for this functionality a number of months ago… now I’m just not sure whether I’ll use it or not.

I think it’s a tough call… following too many people is just like standing in the middle of a crowded auditorium straining to hear — but sometimes, the auditorium is where all of the good “overheard” conversations are.

Still, Social Too and Jesse rock, so I’ll be looking at it too – thanks for the heads up Wayne! :)

Is there a gliche in this post? Everyone’s comments are posted twice.

I have not been on twitter as long as most of you and have found it a slow upward climb to gain followers. From the beginning I would go to each person’s page and read what they had to say, if they had a webpage link, if their tweets were positive energy, linkable or newsworthy.

More than ever there is so much spam, that blocking is a daily chore. Will this ever be remedied?

Doesn’t using tweetdeck or another application make it easier to filter messages?

It might be an idea for the future to clean out all follows. I’ll wait for another report from y’all to see where it takes you.

There is one lingering aftereffect of mass-unfollowing everyone: Twitter keeps some state around that you once followed that person. If you follow them again, you appear down in the middle of their followers list not at the top where a new follower would normally appear. This can cause some consternation, as it kindof looks like you unfollowed _again_.

    More details here: http://jetsam.geekhold.com/inconsistent-twitter-follower-sort-ordering-n

I suspect Twitter does this deliberately. If unfollow+follow moved you to the top of the followers list, the bots would all do it to try to get more people to follow back. Bots are enough of a problem already, without letting them completely take over the service.
