Hootsuite Twitter client goes 2.0, requires a tweet to upgrade. Screenshots & D.O.A.T

So I just received an to upgrade email to the new shiny, Multi Column View, Tabbed Layout, Quick Search and more 2.0 version of HootSuite. My first reaction was great, I love new the features and upgrades. But to upgrade I had to send out a tweeet from all of my HootSuite accounts, something I didn’t want to do. Now do a search for hootsuite and you’ll see others upgrading and auto-tweeting away.

Here’s a look at some of the new Hootsuite 2.0 features.

HootSuite

So far Hootsuite 2.0 looks like a winner in the space of web based professional Twitter clients. It will compete with CoTweet and the new Seesmic web twitter client. But I’m NOT a fan of having to send out a tweet from all of my Hootsuite accounts announcing that I have upgraded. I know it’s a free service and sending out a tweet is smart for marketing for the platform but it still should be optional. From the time I started this post to know over 1,828 upgrade tweets have been sent out meaning other users are upgrading.

Maybe I should do a song called. D.O.A.T. = Death of the auto tweet!

Questions:

Your thoughts on the auto-tweet to ugprade?

Do you like the new interface?

Will you switch from CoTweet, TweetGrid or Seesmic web and use Hoosuite 2.0?

Update:

Twit_normalbeebow: @waynesutton hey @hootsuite_help informs me the tweet is only required for early upgrades… investigating further…

Update 2:
The auto tweet is only if you want to upgrade early. So if you want to wait and not send out an auto tweet, don’t upgrade.

As soon as I tweeted my own “complaint” about the required auto-tweet to upgrade deal, I got this reply from @hootsuite_help:

@beebow No, you don’t have to tweet out any message to get the upgrade. This is an option ONLY for early upgrades. ^CT.

so who knows… i *do* know that i absolutely LOVE the new layout – it’s like TweetDeck on steroids. i’ll always rely on TD for my personal account, but when i have to manage multiple accounts, this new HS is going to be a lifesaver.

I really dislike any app or service sending out a message that appears to come from me. What bothers me most is when such a messages uses the pronoun “I” so it appears as if I personally wrote it. I could understand if it were an optional promotional message, and it were not written in the first person singular. Consider also that a Twitter client already gets a persistent promotional plug in the form of the “via…” metadata that appears with the time stamp of each message. Maybe I am in the minority but this bothers me.

Lauren I like the new Hootsuite features too but I’m with Scott. Even though its for users who want to upgrade early, they should at least allow me to change the tweet text. #FAIL

Thanks for the post, Wayne. Based on this and other feedback, we did add the option to edit the upgrade tweet. As anyone who sent a message to @hootsuite knows, the early upgrade tweet is and was optional. HootSuite 2.0 will be available to all, sans tweet, within a few weeks (no exact date yet.) We hope you love 2.0 as much as we do!
