Hey Wayne and Kipp! Thanks for the mentions about Disqus and the other kids. :) I took notes about what you both found the most compelling about Disqus and took it back to the team. We're always finding that people have different ideas about why they're using Disqus, whether it's a “must have” or just a “cool thing.”

We're really working hard on communicating the flexibility of what we offer, while putting forth our key philosophies to better web discussion.

It seems you both, Kipp and Wayne, understand Disqus pretty well. We actually don't want to be our own social network or identity; I think there are plenty of great services that already provide these things. Disqus is purely a comment manager that will help you manage and comment from a other identities, whether it's something we verify, or through Facebook. We're not completely there yet but this will become more obvious in the coming months.

In your comparison, you put us up against IntenseDebate and Backtype. We're close competitors to ID in our product and features, but I think Backtype is in a different category. They attempt to make sense of the commenting world as well, but with a very different product. I think BT complements Disqus or ID pretty well.

Thanks again for the kinds words and insight.

Hello Daniel, thanks for the comment and overview of Disqus. We're looking forward to seeing the changes that Disqus will implement in the upcoming months. I'm very satisfied how Disqus integrates with Talk Social News and our other wordpress blogs.

Keep in touch and we'll be looking for those updates to talk about on the podcast.

    Wayne

Thanks so much Wayne and Kipp for the coverage. Like Daniel pointed out we really consider our products to be very complimentary. We like what both Intense Debate and Disqus have done to improve conversations. Our main offerings at BackType are search, alerts, and aggregated profiles — essentially a nice set of tools for comment authors and businesses.

Our new WP plugin extends the BackType Connect feature so that WP bloggers can bring the fragmented solution back to their blog. So it is similar to Disqus' social media comments. It's a nice alternative for bloggers that are happy with wordpress native comments, but it certainly isn't a full commenting system like Disqus or Intense Debate.

At the end of the day I think we're seeing people use a combination of these tools to improve their social commenting experiences. Thanks again.

I think Disqus is going to be the next best thing in commenting. It's great at stopping spam !

Ok, just to go against the grain a bit here, I have Facebook Connect running in Intensedebate at: http://diaspora.ie/starship/2009/06/intensedeba…

It's Intensedebates limited roll-out trial so feel free to try it out / leave a message.

    Slainte!

    Mick

PS: I have no preference between Disqus / ID, just that the latter worked first time with my WordPress setup whereas the former didn't.

Thanks a landlord it! I acquired yet some insight. Life is so colorful, we should be able to live in, such as Korea and honor the planet. Human life is like rivers, slowly flowing, flowing rivers, flowing through the snow, flows through the prairie and ultimately into the sea, return to the embrace of nature, start a new reincarnation. Allow us to feel the meaning of life will come only to those you have those memories http://www.cheap-nikeshox.com/nike-shox-TL1.html
